Timeline

From Year 10 to what comes after

IGCSE is a 14–16 qualification. It is not the exam Hong Kong universities read for JUPAS — that is the HKDSE at 17–18, or A Levels / IB if the student stays on an international track.

  1. 01 · Year 9

    Choose the set

Schools confirm subject blocks. Keep English, maths, and science doors open. Add languages and options that you will still enjoy in two years.

  2. 02 · Year 10

    Learn the syllabus

Two-year courses start here. Core vs Extended decisions often land in this year once mock data exists.

  3. 03 · Year 11

    Exam series

Mocks, revision, then the May/June papers for most schools. Results in August inform A Level / IB subject choices.

  4. 04 · Year 12–13

    What comes next

Cambridge International AS & A Levels, the IB Diploma, or other national programmes. IGCSE is the foundation, not the university ticket.

Hong Kong, international track

ESF, international, and some private schools teach IGCSE in Years 10–11, then IB Diploma or A Levels. Overseas applications read those 16–18 results, with IGCSE as supporting evidence.

Hong Kong, local track

Most local schools follow the HKDSE. A student who sat IGCSE earlier still needs a recognised senior qualification (DSE, A Level, IB) for JUPAS or non-JUPAS local admissions.
